167 Lake Avenue Newton Center MA 02459 Enter near garage 617-928-1253 janemaxwell@comcast.net
Jane Maxwell is a mixed media artist, whose recent work incorporates paper doll cut-out forms and dresses as its central images. These familiar icons are manipulated to comment on issues related to women's body image.
The collages are a detailed layering of vintage doll cut-out imagery, found papers, tape, staples, stitching and wax. Shawn Hill, critic for Art New England said about Jane's work "…her intricate collages take paper dolls to a whole new level." Her most recent collection is made up of a series of blocks and puzzle-forms that further deconstruct the idealized female figure.
Jane has been in numerous shows in New England and beyond. Her work is featured in Collage for the Soul and Altered Books, Collaborative Journals and other Adventures in Bookmaking (both from Rockport Books). She lives in Newton with her husband and three children.
