I rediscovered drawing after being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. During my recovery, drawing was not only a distraction but also physical therapy.
I have always believed one’s reality is shaped by ones “perspective” of life and, in an effort to control my own reality of endless tests and drug therapies, I began my journey on perspective drawing. Drawing is a way for me to reflect the beauty of the world around me and if I can convey that appreciation to others who view my work, I am satisfied. From a photograph taken in my garden of one small cosmos to the quiet still life of fruit, I hope to capture the moment that we so often miss. I enjoy utilizing pastels and acrylics to capture a still life, landscapes and the reflection of a person’s thought in portraiture.
My formal education in Economics was at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and I did not start training as an artist until a few years ago. I am thankful to Yolande Abramian for being such an inspiring art teacher and my family for their encouragement. Other influences include Jeanne Gugino’s wonderful Pastel Classes and the hundreds of thousands of us who enjoy drawing and are not afraid to show our work others. When I’m not drawing or raising my three children with my husband Jim, I enjoy reading The Onion, history books, pretending I can speak Spanish and laughing with friends.
