I work primarily with nature and travel subjects, particularly animals, birds, flowers, and landscapes. My goal is to capture the essence of my subject at an un-repeatable moment in time and in the best possible light, both literally and figuratively. Generally, I move in tight for an intimate portrait and try to enhance color and texture and emphasize form. I tend to work seriously on a collection of related images until I have fully explored my subject, then I rest and recover before beginning the process again. I love photography – I “see” photographs everywhere, all the time – but it is impossible to “make” them all, so I have learned to let many pass by while I concentrate on those that have the most meaning for me.

In the collection represented here, “Florals in Winter Light”, I have experimented with a combination of warm and cool light resulting from the intermingling of low-angled sunlight and light reflected off snow. This “Winter Light” gives a luminous glow to translucent flowers, and I hope the contrasts of warm/cool and calm/stimulating add a bit of excitement to the work as a whole.

My images are all digital, and I love working with image editing programs for their creative potential. I enjoy doing all my own printing as well, enabling me to maintain complete control of the artistic process.

I invite you to follow the link to my website to view additional “Florals in Winter Light” and my other collections, including: “New England Wildflowers”, “ARIZONA: Red Rock Country”, “Autumn Reflections”, and, primarily for children, but adults like them, too, “Cute Squirrels in the Owl House”. I also have many photographs that have not yet found their way into collections, but that hint at future possibilities. I hope you enjoy them all.
