On November 17th – 20th, 2002, her “Tree of Life” Bayn Gavrah Torah Cover (used to cover the Torah during the time period in between Torah readings, during which blessings are recited) and her “After the Flood … God’s Promise” Torah Mantle will be exhibited at the Women’s League Biennial International Convention, in Philadelphia. On November 25, 2002, Karin and 3 other Depot Square “Guest Artists” were featured on Boston Cable News for the Opening of the 2002 Holiday and Gift Sale. Karin participated in the 2002 “Crafts @ the Center” Show at Leventhal-Sidman JCC’s Starr Gallery, during the last two weeks of December, 2002. In addition to participating in a number of other shows this past year, the November issue of Newton Magazine, featured her Silk Scarf, “Iris”, in an article “Arts Outlook: Newton Talent on Display: Celebrate Newton with Crafts” about Newton’s 2nd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair on December 7th.
Karin’s one-of-a-kind Tallitot are text-derived. She works directly with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah (both adults and teens). Karin and the Bar/Bat Mitzvah both read the Torah/Haftorah portion for 3 visual images: where those images coincide is Karin’s creative take-off point. (The recipient may also choose an alternate text/image). Karin’s goal is to have the text “come alive”, so that wrapping oneself in a Tallit truly envelopes the recipient in a “sacred space” for prayer.
