I don't know what Wendy's reasoning for the small map was. But I have to
tell you that it fits on my modest screen! What a pleasure it is now for
me to see and use the options, to be able to view all numbers on the
map, to see all results of hovering, etc. WITHOUT
scrolling up/down. The fact that I can now deal with the map and its
effects -- look at what I'd been missing out on before. Wow! I like the
new option of getting a printed list of everyone within the media
options that I checked. The user certainly has the ability to do a lot
of preparation and planning before hitting the pavement.
Wow! I could click four times to get closer and closer zooms! With each
zoom, the streets become more recognizable, and I could eventually read
them as well.
As nifty as the feature is, I wonder if users will take advantage of it.
I suppose those who linger on the website might seek out such details
before they get the brochure map, which they'll definitely "cling" to.
You're putting an incredible amount of attention to detail to this, JB.
I hope it's appreciated by the users.
I never experienced that kind of access before, and it was weirdly nice.
(That was a compliment). The other nice thing: using the media option
list to find them on the map. You've created a very elaborate map, many
options to get at the same info- that must satisfy all kinds of
mindsets!
Bottom line from my perspective, the map is certainly far
more than I ever imagined.

Just had a chance to play with updated map feature on NOS
site. Found no problems or difficulties. Excellent, gives people
LOTS of ways to go to get info and zoom feature - very useful. No
Lost Souls this year (unless they can't read or have ancient
computer/browser).

I did go to look at some of the other open studio sites.
Ours is clearly the best. It's difficult to find a list of the
artists on some sites, and others don't have images. NOS has great

It seemed to me that many people were visiting open
studios for the first time, probably drawn in by the fabulous publicity.
Most had carefully planned whom to visit because there were so many
artists that it was necessary to prioritize. Thus we had many people who
came to see my felted work or Donna's dolls, for example. So there was a
high level of interest. Cheers and applause to the publicity committee,
to JB for the wonderful Web site, and also to the weather committee,
which did a great job.

My wife and I had gone to a Framingham studio open house
in April and had a great time. This was held in one building so getting
around was a bit easier. I was looking for another studio open house
when I saw in the Globe that Somerville had a similar open house planned
which we were not able to make. But it gave me the idea to do a search
on google which I did and Newton's studio tour came up. I went to the
really interesting web site and checked off a few places that we hope to
visit on Saturday afternoon.
