Dear Newton Artist,

Newton Open Studios is now an annual community art event, a time for Newton to come together in celebration of Newton artists. Your participation in Newton Open Studios 2003 is welcome and important. This is your opportunity to open your doors, show your work, and offer it for sale to one of the most appreciative art communities in the Boston area.

The Newton Open Studios, held on the third weekend in May each year, will be May 17 and 18, 2003, noon to 5 p.m. This year is very special as it is an all-artist run event. Previously, Newton Open Studios was managed by the New Art Center. A new artist committee has been meeting every month since June. We are a strong group of artists working on numerous aspects of this event, including extensive advance publicity, a new, widely distributed brochure, and a dedicated Newton Open Studios website. Now is the time to sign up and be included in this exciting Newton Open Studios event.

As an artist-run event, all publicity expenses are to be covered by the participating artists' fees. For planning and budgeting, it is essential that we have your commitment with a check on time (Fees are discussed here). We have extended the deadline to December 31, 2002. Unlike past years, this year we will not receive funding from the New Art Center or the Newton Cultural Council (due to the current state of the economy). So we are asking for your help and support by requiring your artists' fees early. Your early commitment and cooperation will ensure ample advance publicity and the opportunity to show your work on the new Newton Open Studios website for one full year with your image and listing. All fees are dedicated to covering the costs of the new brochure design and map, a bulk mailing (with a list kindly provided by the New Art Center), and publicity listings. Please help us make Newton Open Studios 2003 a wonderful and grand event through your participation and support.
