This is from the
year 2003 Open Studios in Newton, Massachusetts.
Directions for
Submitting Images
Artists participating in the Open Studios are urged, requested, and begged
to supply images of their art. These must be digital.
We will use these in the brochure and on this website to make a delectable
appetizer for people to see. Your local camera store or photo lab can
produce a digital format from a slide or print.
Newtonville Camera at just 95¢
apiece including the CD is an incredible deal, speak to Paul Smith,
nicknamed "Smitty".
You may
provide us with up to five images:
-
The Brochure Image.
Any shape.
-
The Thumbnail Image
which appears on the front page and when you
hover your mouse over the artist's name
on other pages. Square images are very effective here, but it is up to
you. Any aspect ratio, or ratio of height to width.
-
The Artist Page Images
on the
individual artist's page. There can be either zero, one or two, of
any aspect ratio, or ratio of height to width.
-
The Slide Show Image
for The Slide Show. This must be a
horizontal image with an Aspect ratio, or ratio of height to width, of
4:3.
Technical
Image Specs:
-
Digital Format: Jpeg (Use maximum quality or minimum
compression) or Tiff (uncompressed).
-
Our
ImageMeister will compress and re-size your images for you to fit the
webpages and the brochure.
-
Please indicate which image should be used
for which purpose. If you don't, we will use our judgment (or lack
thereof). Each image may be used in multiple locations, or you may
provide a different one for each place.
Notes:
-
Please e-mail these to us at
images@newtonopenstudios.com (we can accept large emails, up to
25M-bytes). If you wish to Zip them up, that is OK. This is
best, but alternatively you can send them to us on a 3.5" Floppy or a CD
or a 100M~250M Zip disk. Or upload them to our FTP site.
Please e-mail us to get mailing or FTP instructions.
-
Never send anyone your only copy of an image!
Ever! Especially us. If physical media are sent, they will
not be returned unless you include a stamped self-addressed envelope (we
eat them for dinner with melted mozzarella, Media au Gratin).
-
Photography Suggestions: Do not put a border or
visual frame around your image. "Just the Beef". Avoid irrelevant
stuff around the artwork. Photograph your artwork on a solid
background, e.g., white or gray cloth or the like to keep the viewer
focused on the artwork itself. Look at the images we have from
other artists and imitate the photography of those that have good impact
for you. And get your artwork in focus! No fuzzy snapshots
(Please)!
-
We reserve the right to reject images (and wording for
that matter) for this site and the brochure for any reason and in our
sole judgment including but not limited to excessive technical problems,
low quality images, and plain old censorship.
Good Luck. If you have further questions, please e-mail
JB.
