My current paintings are situated on the border between abstraction and representation, and are informed by my long-standing concerns with memory, loss, and the passage of time. With this body of work, however, the imagery has become less personalized and reaches for more universal expression. The images draw upon the symbols of “clocks” and “flags” drawn by my father, whose body and mind are slowly abandoning him. These are the starting points from which my hand joins his in recording a personal decline, but one that has meaning beyond the personal.
