Scattergood-Moore was born on November 30th in Newton, Massachusetts. He was raised on Long Island, New York during early childhood and later on Cape Cod. He received a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Swain School of Design, New Bedford, MA; a B.F.A. from Boston University; and a M.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
He has an extensive record of solo and group exhibitions. His drawings and paintings are included in numerous private collections across the United States. He received three fellowships from the the Massachusetts Council for the Arts and was nominated for the prestigious national Awards in the Visual Arts Program.
He has worked for artists' rights and housing issues and was a founding member of the Waltham Mills Artists Association and the Newton Artists Housing Partnership. The later purchased the Claflin School from the City of Newton and developed it into permanent live/work space for visual artists. He has served on the Newton Arts Center Board of Directors and was appointed the visual arts representative on the City of Newton Cultural Council.
Scattergood-Moore has taught art classes professionally since 1962. He has organized exhibitions as a professional and free-lance curator. Since the mid 1980s he has concentrated solely on large charcoal drawings and conceptual art projects, as well as creating professional web sites for PantherPro USA and a personal website with an emphasis on neglected artists. (i.e. Henry Clews, Helen West Heller, Thomas Wilfred). Scattergood resides in Newton at the Claflin School Studios.
